My new iPod nano seems to have run afoul of Chinese authorities before I even got to use it. Could it be because of Apple’s counter-revolutionary capitalization scheme? Should I be worried?

Uh oh. I hope the one I ordered today for my husband’s birthday doesn’t meet a similar fate. The shipping time is close to the wire as it is.

After some calls to Amnesty International, I was able to establish that my iPod nano was being held and interrogated in a Chinese prison. Through the application of diplomatic pressure (it’s remarkable how quickly our State Department moves when commerce is involved), the iPod has been released, and is now in New York.
I hope your husband’s iPod fares better. That’s a great gift, and you’re an extraordinarily thoughtful wife.
